What Are The Different Of I386, X86-64, Ppc, And I686?
PPC June 22nd, 2009I am going to download the new release Fedora 7 which just comes out today. There are these different versions of Fedora for me to download. I have found the answers of this from wiki, just want to see if anyone has a better and clear explaination. Thanks!

Well x86 and ppc are two (or 3 depending on which ppc you mean) types of computers
i386 (/i486/i586) and i686 stand for different Intel pentums (well thats mostly true except they weren’t called pentiums yet back in 286, 386, and 486 days)
ppc’s however are mostly MacIntosh Power PCS, but could be refering to PocketPC’s so you need more information to what context your referring to, I’d suggest its likely to be a MacIntosh computer that those are made for…
(Note: some versions of AmigaOS also uses PowerPC architecture…)
If your comptuer is a pentium 4 (like I’m guessing its likely to be) any x86 should be fine, if its a 64-bit processor (ie intel pentium with EMT64) you may choose either the x86-64 or i686 versions…
