Who Would Win A One-on-one Basketball Game Between Magic Johnson (in His Prime) And Larry Bird (in His Prime)?
PPC February 28th, 2010If they were playing in a one-on-one basketball on pay-per-view in Las Vegas, and you had to make a bet, who would you bet on?
And new-school fans and/or immature kids: Do me a favor please, and do not troll this thread, and actually stick to the topic. Either answer the question seriously, or just don’t post please.
No Lebron James. No Kobe Bryant. Infact, you know what year it is on this thread?
1985. All around you, and when you click back, it’s 2009. But right now, as you read this on this page, it’s 1985.
*points outside*
2009…..
*points to the thread title*
1985……
Lebron James is just a baby right now, and Kobe Bryant is in grade school.
Okay?
Thank you.

MJ
he had a more complete game and was a more agressive player over all. however it is tricky because MJ never had to worry about one on one he was a team player and he was beter for making his team beter. he didnt have t o score as much. Bird was a scorer, that was the main aspect of his game, shooter, shooter, shooter. MJ could score but his mind set was on winning not scoring. I dont know how he would face once the D didnt have to worry about him dishing it out. I pick MJ because he was a smarter player and would find a way to win, no matter what

If your talking 1985, then Magic was still a couple years away from becoming a great scorer. Bird, at that point, was one of the premier scorers in the league.
It would be a great game, but Bird has way too many weapons for Magic. There wasn’t anybody in the league who could stop Bird in his prime, especially Magic.
I can’t see anyway possible that Magic could beat Bird in a one on one game.

It would be a close game, they would trade baskets, Magic would dominate in the post, Bird would be jacking up the outside shots. In crunch time with seconds counting down Magic would win with a baby sky-hook over Bird. GAME OVER!!

Bird. He was a better 1 on 1 player and shooter. Magic was a better distributor, but that’s irrelevant in a 1 on 1 game.

The bird man…………He’s just a better all around player.

at 43 years of age i think i’m qualified to give a good answer for ya…in the past i would have picked Magic. if Magic would have played small forward, no doubt he would have led the league in scoring a few seasons, and probably had a trip-dubb season average like the big O did. he was a good all around player, but defensively, he wouldn’t have been able to keep up with Bird. they were the same height and weight, but bird had superior offensive skills. one-on-one Bird could defend Magic, but Magic wouldn’t be able to defend Bird….best 3 out of 5 would go to Bird. aint no doubt
